HDV editing conundrum

I've been asked to edit a feature, and the director has about 14 hours of HDV footage.

I was looking at getting the Iomega 320Gig USB2 hard drive for the editing, but I can't seem to get a straight answer anywhere about HDV transfer rates/storage requirements. Does anyone know?

Alternatively, I heard that you can capture HDV in SD to save space (which would be preferable based on my current setup), but as I'll need to cadge an HDV camcorder for any capturing, things like that quickly become a consideration.

Firstly I'd think about getting a Firewire drive instead of a USB one. Only because Firewire offloads a bit of processing from the CPU and is better at sustainable throughput than USB. But I dare say USB would be "okay".

As to HDV and SD etc, um, dunno.

HDV storage requirements are approximately the same as standard DV. HDV is basically a compressed MPEG at HD resolution that plays back at the same bitrate as DV. You can use the same hard drives for editing DV and HDV, but you will need a fast processor to edit HDV in realtime.
